As a family we like to take a fun summer vacation each year. Along with our ‘big’ trip each year we enjoy short getaways to surrounding cities and states to see what they have to offer. And of course we don’t want to miss what’s right here in our own community either. We take these excursions as a time to bond and build memories that will be shared over the years and to draw our family in closer.
Whether its theme parks, museums, festivals, state parks, restaurants, or a full blown family vacation a little planning is always necessary to make a great place to visit a success for the family. So how do you find great places to visit?
The number one way to find a great place to visit is to start your search online. If you are just looking for something to do for the day or looking for a two-week vacation idea you will find numerous ideas on the internet. There are thousands of travel sites and blogs that help point you in the right direction. Do a search for the geographic area you hope to be in and you will find plenty of ideas. Once you’ve gotten an idea of where you might like to go, do some research on the specific location, read reviews, and if it’s a place that has a fee of some kind search for coupons or discount days.
Another place to discover great places to visit is to look in magazines. If you don’t want to subscribe to magazines you can ask for back issues at the doctor’s office or simply visit your local library and browse their selection. Magazines are great for discovering vacation ideas as well as fun family activities that you might find in your community. Newspapers will offer opportunities of great places and events in your community.
Finally, when looking for great places to go, ask around. Ask your friends and family where they enjoy going or what they enjoy doing and give it a try. I recently saw a friend who posted a comment looking for a fun vacation spot within driving distance. She got several responses from her friends and ended up posting pictures a couple of months later proving that she had taken the advice of one of her friends. I made a note of some of the places mentioned so that we can look into them in the future too.
There are lots of great places to visit out there. You just have to find places that appeal to you and your family and then be intentional about visiting them.
